Logo Dounreay Site Restoration Limited Decommissioning Phase 2 application Dounreay nuclear research site, Caithness

We’re assisting DSRL in an application for planning permission related to retrieving higher active radioactive waste ‘stored’ in the shaft and silo at Dounreay. This work is widely recognised as one of the world’s most challenging nuclear decommissioning operations. DSRL’s intention is to treat and store the radioactive waste on site until a national repository for ILW is available.

We’re working closely with DSRL, guiding them through the application process including pre-application consultation, scoping and reviewing an Environmental Statement for a Schedule 1 development, and drafting and perfecting a planning application and planning statement.  Our work includes regularly meeting the Scottish Government, SEPA, ONR and community leaders.

Planning Permission was granted by Highland Council on 20th May 2013.

Client Comment

In my view, Zyda Law's 'can do' attitude, demonstrated track record focused on client needs and ability to respond positively to challenging instructions far exceeds many much larger firms such as Morton Fraser, Maclay, Murray & Spens and Semple Fraser.
